Excerpt from Perfidy, The Debacle Series, Book One

My hand trembled when my fingers dragged my laptop from across the table, but my attention veered to the laptop screen. What if exhaustion wasn’t the cause, but my paranormal gift was activating instead?

I kept my unique talents hidden from my unsuspecting husband, which was crucial, as I feared he’d question my mental well-being. His commitment to Jewish traditions prevented him from delving into metaphysical concepts. Yet he knew I had heavenly powers. He had seen the ethereal blue aura that enveloped me.

Given his skepticism, I refrained from pressuring him to have faith in my superhuman powers. My parents embraced our Jewish identity, and the supernatural gifts granted by the Holy Spirit to explore beyond the surface. Self-doubt whispered in my senses, and then fatigue. More booms echoed in the sky, causing me to shake my head and take a breath.

Out of nowhere, the air buzzed with energy as a dazzling swirl appeared before my eyes. The sight made me shiver, and my mind raced with potential danger. Enthralled by the portal’s pulsing, magnetic presence, I pushed aside my apprehension and resolved to explore its enigmatic depths.

“Noah, sweetie, do you see the spiral hovering over me? I realize sleep has evaded me, but I need to be sure I wasn’t seeing things.” As I questioned him, I wrestled with my inner conflict, longing for proof to confirm my vision. He stopped typing and answered me.

“Honey, I don’t see a portal. The blue light from your computer must be affecting your eyesight. Hurry and complete your project, and then we can eat. I don’t want to have dinner without you.”
