Jon banged on the door. Sophia wondered why he had knocked so hard. Was this a signal? She suspected him. But why is he protecting me? The intrigue thickened.
She opened the door for him. Her heart fell when she skimmed his haggard face and the dark circles under his eyes.
“Come. Can you tell me what’s happening? Why are these crazy events happening? I need to know. You are secretive, and I demand transparency!” Tears formed in her eyes.
They moved to the sofa pod and sat across from each other. Sophia focused on his verbal and non-verbal movements. His lying had angered her.
“Sophia, please let me explain. I received a call right before your plane landed. The oil moguls do not want you in Romala. They don’t want you snooping. Your track record for finding the root of anomalies is stellar. The oil company knows your history and fears your experiments could uncover the facts. Since you insist on knowing, I must tell you. So here is the truth.”

What is truth? In John 18:38, Pilate famously asked, “What is truth?” Afterward, he returned to the crowd and declared, “He is not guilty of any crime.” Pilate was aware that Jesus had committed no offenses against the law or the people; yet, he felt powerless to oppose the pressure and demands placed upon him. He wrestled with the concept of truth, unaware that the very truth he questioned — the Son of God — was standing before him. This ignorance led to a deep inner turmoil, especially after he handed down the sentence for Jesus.
When truth is left unspoken or ignored, it opens the door for the devil to distort and tarnish what God has created and declared. Satan is known as the “father of lies,” because he is the original deceitful being (John 8:44). Every lie we tell aligns us with Satan at that moment. That’s why repentance is so crucial; it must be done promptly to realign ourselves with God's truth and restore our standing with Him.
